Automatic Notifications of Branch Meetings
Our Branch Calendar uses Google Calendar. A useful feature of this is that you can subscribe to the calendar, and Google will send you notifications of meetings via email or SMS. This page will explain the process. Hopefully it shouldn't be too daunting!
Subscribing to the Grantham CAMRA Calendar
- Go to the Google Calendar website at http://calendar.google.com/
- If you already have a Google account, sign in using the box on the right-hand side of the Google Calendar homepage. If you don't have an account, there is also an option to create one.
- Once you're logged in, you will be presented with a calendar. On the left-hand side, you will see a small box entitled "Other Calendars". Click on the "Add" link under this heading, then on the "Add by URL" option.
- Copy and paste the following link into the Public Calendar Address box. Make sure "Make this calendar publicly accessible?" is unticked, then click on Add:

- You should now be returned to the main calendar screen. The title "Grantham CAMRA" should now appear under the "Other Calendars" heading on the left-hand side.
- Under the "My Calendars" section on the left-hand side, click "Settings".
- Under the heading "Calendar Settings", towards the top of the screen, click "General".
- Make sure the correct language, country and time zone are selected, then click "Save". You should be returned to the main calendar screen.
Setting Up Email Notifications for Meetings
- Begin by subscribing to the calendar, as outlined above. If you aren't already logged into Google Calendar, log in now.
- Once logged in, you should be presented with a calendar. On the left-hand side, under the "Other Calendars" box, select "Settings".
- On the settings page, look under the heading "Other Calendars - Calendars I can only view". You should see an entry for Grantham CAMRA. Select "Notifications" alongside this entry.
- Under "Event Reminders", you will see "No reminders set" and "Add a reminder". Click on "Add a reminder".
- Where it says "By default remind me via", ensure the first drop-down list says "Email". Use the second and third drop-down lists to specify how long prior to each meeting you would like to be notified. Then click "Save".
- You will be returned to the calendar. Your reminder is now set up.
Setting Up Text Message Notifications for Meetings
- Begin by subscribing to the calendar, as outlined above. If you aren't already logged into Google Calendar, log in now.
- Once logged in, you should be presented with a calendar. On the left-hand side, under the "Other Calendars" box, select "Settings".
- On the settings page, look under the heading "Other Calendars - Calendars I can only view". You should see an entry for Grantham CAMRA. Select "Notifications" alongside this entry.
- At the bottom of this screen, click on "Set up your mobile phone to receive notifications".
- Select your country and enter your mobile phone number. Click on "Send Verification Code". Google will send you a text message containing a special code.
- Check your mobile phone, and enter the number contained in the text message into the "Verification Code" box. Then click "Finish Setup", then Save.
- You should be returned to the main calendar. On the left-hand side, under the "Other Calendars" box, select "Settings".
- On the settings page, look under the heading "Other Calendars - Calendars I can only view". You should see an entry for Grantham CAMRA. Select "Notifications" alongside this entry.
- Under "Event Reminders", you will see "No reminders set" and "Add a reminder". Click on "Add a reminder".

- You will be returned to the calendar. Your reminder is now set up.
Go back to the Grantham CAMRA events list.
